With the aim to revitalize the publication this year, the editorial board plans to release more often as possible. If ti me and fate would allow the production of many issues, we are more than willing to give our best to achieve our goal.

Last year, the publicati on has been reformatted to have five different sections namely Scenes, Perspectives, Issues, Faces, and Letters to represent News, Opinion, Special Reports, Features, and Literary, respectively.

The publication merely relied on the use of photos because it was not equipped with adequate artistic resources back then. But now, with our recently concluded call for applicants, artists were accepted hoping that they will help improve the publication’s visual aspect.

On a lighter note, I would like to express my deepest grati tude to those Artlets students who heeded the
Flame’s call for applicants last July 9. A total of 109 students gave their best shot in answering the qualifying exam, making the current staff feel overwhelmed with the warm response we got from the Artlets community.

Results of the exam were already released and the new set of staff will parti cipate in making our third issue that is due few months from now.

We are hoping that you will continuously support us not only this year, but also for the years to come in our endeavor to keep the
Flame burning.

Greetings, fellow Artlets students!

The
Flame, the official student publication of the Faculty of Arts and Lett ers, has undergone a lot of changes in its format and frequency of release throughout the years. Originally founded by a group of students on October 16, 1964, it was published in a special tabloid-sized paper that chronicled not just the important happenings in the Faculty, but in the University as well.

Years have passed and the newspaper format of this publication was turned into a newsmagazine type. From its quarterly release, it gradually became annual for the past years.
