The first time I read the article, I was quite shocked with the level of destruction technology can pose to  umankind. This is an unfortunate reality because of the fact that technology must be used as a medium to advance and ease our lives. Contrary to what reality reflects, it must not cause humanity’s destruction and downfall.

On a lighter note, it is good to see that some members of the younger generation know how to set their priorities and to resist the temptation posted by online video games.

However, may it be in terms of playing video games or any other else, all of us have an addiction that will prove to be just as unhealthy.

Our elders unceasingly remind us that our generation has been deemed as those who cannot live without the perks of technology. Oftentimes, we disregard such statements saying that they are unnecessary and untrue.

To most of us, these reminders have been repeated so often, yet we still fail to listen and to ponder the real meaning they convey.

We are often asked to envision our future lives without the benefits of the modern world. While some of us are unhesitant, saying that we will be able to survive without the perks of technological innovations, we realize that this may only be possible for a short span of time. At the end of the day, we still find ourselves in the arms of these contemporary tools.

This is the reality that we have to accept. The norms of living and learning have changed and have become complicated. Nevertheless, it is still good to note that our dependence on the products of technology is not pure evil.

Our modern world has been molded with technology at its pedestal. This makes addiction to such innovations irresistible, if not totally inevitable. Despite this, the concern lies on how, where, and what we use it for. Unconsciously, we have boxed ourselves and confined our abilities with what technology can offer.

The fact still remains that in this day and age, we have grown to be undereducated. We have forgotten to ask sensible questions, to aim to learn more, and to test our limits. We have depended ourselves with what technology can offer without striving to defy the limits established by the society. The world will not stop evolving and will continuously become more science-laden, putting us closer to the verge of scientific advancement.

The question is whether or not we will be able to maintain the knowledge and simplicity of the past and carry it on.

The problem springs not from technology or the information we take in but our inability to vie for improvement, to refrain from settling with only the second best, and to go beyond the scholarly boundaries that we have set for ourselves.

On a deadly century
MORE OFTEN than not, technology is perceived to be one of the most beneficial innovations made available to humankind for the favorable effects it brings to us. However, it also poses detrimental offshoots once
indiscriminately and abusively used.

A few weeks ago, I came across an online news article about 20-year-old Chris Staniforth who died after extreme long hours of playing online
video games.

According to the story of Huffington Post, Staniforth died of deep vein thrombosis, a condition supposedly caused by “sitting in the same position for too long, eventually leading to blood clot.
